The Tri-facial Trinity, or a three-faced Jesus which represents the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, was a common theme in medieval art until it was banned by Pope Urban VIII in 1628. Apparently the icon was too reminiscent of the multi-faced pagan deities found in various cultures around the world for the Catholic Church’s liking 🤷🏽♀️ Few examples of the mutant Jesus (lolz) remain today, as many of the originals were destroyed or painted over - but gems like these have thankfully survived.
