Where were you? • World Trade Center c1977. I'm not sure if the beach was photoshopped into this picture. The couple is sunning where Battery Park City now stands. The park was built on a landfill. My mom, who went to Pace U. in the 70s, and took us to see the towers being built, thought there may have been a beach there for a little while. Either way, I love the innocence of this photo. • I woke on 9/11 to the sounds of sirens screeching down Second Ave. I had just sold the home I shared with my late husband and moved downtown. From my living room I saw the north tower smoking and then the second plane heading for the south tower. It was as though I was watching a movie from my window. Alone, I sat listening to the news, watching the towers fall. You can never quite get that scene out of your mind. • Seven months later, running away from my life, I left for Afghanistan to cover the war for ABC. When I return I had changed, and so did life as we knew it. • I wish I had visited that beach while it lasted. #neverforget #911 🙏 • P.S. The photo is real. Link in bio to read about it. @nytimes

So today I decided to go visit the World Trade Center because as a millennial and someone born after the attacks of 9/11, it still is just an event that happened in history and to my city. And although I wasn’t alive, as many of us weren’t, we aren’t able to relate to the emotions, the feelings, the devastation, or the recovery that took place so I took the day to educate myself and try to connect to the people who were affected that day. However, what’s most important is that this building is not a representation of recovery, it is a representation of unity, togetherness, and inclusion seen within our country. America is in a state of disarray, disunity, and oppression towards the diverse, but One World Trade can serve as our inspiration, our push to grow stronger as a nation and include because I would rather have a nation be as inclusive as it was on 9/12 than how it is now. I want to be defined by the things that I love, and besides everyone on here, it is my country and my city. Enjoy your Sunday and do an act of kindness or reach out to someone you’ve lost contact with, it’ll change a life. 🤩🥰😊 If you read this you’re a g😁
