Day 15 - #inktober2019 - #legend .
"In the land of Camargue" inspired by a legend that holds a special place in my heart. It happened in 1st century, after Jesus's crucification. It tells of three Marys landed in #Santes -Maries-de-la-Mer, in the region of #Camargue , France to escape persecution and to protect a child named Sarah. The three Marys were - Mary of Nazareth (Jesus' mom,) her sister whose name was also Mary, and Mary of Magdala - Mary Magdalene. She wrote a gospel called "The Gospel of Mary Magdalene", which was in the Gnostic texts. In 325 A.D., after the council of Nicaea made a creed, a New Testament was created. They took out some of the sacred texts, from the early Christ movement. These texts were - the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Philip, The Acts of Paul and Thecla (another great legend!) and The Thunder, Perfect Mind. They were ordered to be destroyed, luckily for some wise monks, who knew the importance of these scriptures, hidden/buried them deep in desert and caves in Egypt. They were found later, got translated and published in different languages. I have read The Gospel of Mary Magdalene by Jean-Yves-Leloup - it's a heart opening book! Hay House author Meggan Watterson recently published "Mary Magdalene Revealed," which helped me deepen my understanding about her teaching. Mary Magdalene was declared as a prostitute by Pope Gregory in 6th century, after 1378 years, the mistake was officially corrected by the church. Recently she's been "rehabilitated" by Pope Francis to become "the apostle to the apostles." Sainte-Baume is her pilgrimage site in Camargue.
The symbol in my drawing is called "The Cross of the Camargue." Camague is also a place where flamingos roam, lavenders and roses bloom. The legend tells that after arriving there, Mary Magdalene lived the last of her 30 years, in Sainte-Baume, or in a cave called the Cave of Eggs. A movie about her, called "Mary Magdalene" was released in 2018, Joaquin Phoenix was the actor as Jesus, it's a good film to watch - as we know of him in "Joker," he's great as "Jesus" too. *
