Sushi? 🍣 No! Kimbap!! 🇰🇷 Korean Kimbap has endless varieties. It's basically a wrap🌯 - but instead of bread, it's rice🍚 filled with whatever you like! 🥑🍆🥕🌶🥒🥦🍄 There are a few standard types of Kimbap - one of them is 'Mayak Kimbap' (마약김밥). Its main characteristic is the corresponding dipping sauce, because other Kimbap contain fillings which are already seasoned and don't require a sauce. But not the fact that it is served with a sauce makes this Kimbap special. It's the sauce itself!
The mysterious sauce contains soy sauce and mustard among other things, which give it its addictive flavor. 👅 Hence the name "Mayak" which translates to "drug". 🤪🥢 The rest of this Kimbap is rather simple: It's a mini Kimbap (꼬마감밥) with only a few fillings - yellow pickled radish (danmuji 단무지) and carrot.🍚🥕 Occasionally, there may be an extra filling. 🌿 Summed up in a few words: It's commonly vegan🌱, gluten free🚫🌾 AND yummy 🤤
Just to make sure that your serving of Kimbap is vegan, you can say this: "Kimbabe yachaeman neo-eojuseo." 김밥에 야채만 넣어 주세요. - "Please only put vegetables into my Kimbap." By the way, the origin of this type of Kimbap is supposedly Gwangjang Market (광장시장) in Seoul. There, you can find many food stalls and restaurants which prepare Mayak Kimbap in huge amounts. Ready to eat on location or in to-go-boxes for a price of 3000 to 4000 KRW.
