Squat/Leg Day (Week 2) • • I’ve been absent from my workouts. I took about 4 extra days off falling into a rut and blaming being sluggish from lack of consistent sleep. I probably would have skipped today too but I got words of encouragement from @j__trott “Force feeding workouts is no fun but most of the time checking that box feels good after you get done.” — just what I needed to hear. Video from a few years ago with #thebeasts 🤙🤙🤙 Aim was to #teach and develop #explosive #strength which has obvious carryover to #football , but also any #sport where you must utilize rapid contractions of the #muscles ...which unless im mistaken is an overwhelming majority of all #sports 🤔👊👊 This #movement targets both the #upperbody system to throw the ball, as well as the #lowerbody and primarily the #hips to push against the ground.. 👊🤙👍 I also knew itd be #fun for them to throw a big heavy ball and watch it slam into the ground without repurcussions for having possibly broken something lol. Fun is priority 1 when training kids, I always want to establish within them a positive experience and quality relationship with movement and #exercise . Took me two separate times to get this workout in today because duty calls, but I got it all in even if it was after dark. Kinda hoping I’ll be sore tomorrow. Is that sick or what? Do you ever look forward to being sore? Of course you do, you maniac! I haven’t had DOMS in a while so I’m thinking I must be doing it wrong. Need to switch some stuff up! 230x5x16,15,13,12,11. This was set 3 with 11 of 13 reps shown. I’m so proud of these squats, I worked very hard to develop this form. The 4 things I’m most proud of with my squats are 1) I have successfully migrated back to high bar after a 5 year hiatus due to a shoulder issue. My right labrum is torn and for a few years I just couldn’t support weight on that trap for fear of pushing the humerus out of the glenoid. Just being able to put weight on my back that can challenge my legs is a HUGE win for me. 2) Adopting a narrow stance. This has been huge for my quad/adductor development! I’ve never felt my quads and adductors so lit up the way narrow stance squats does it. Albeit, this is not entirely my choice as I’ve come to learn that my acetabulum’s are set in a more narrow, anterior plane so really, for squats to be physiologically compatible with my bone structure, narrow stance is my only choice. 3) NO FOOT PRONATION IN THE BOTTOM OF MY SQUAT! Learning how to keep my tibialis posterior engaged during peak knee and hip flexion has been key to every part of developing a proper squat. Since I’m very flat footed, this was an uphill battle but a combination of understanding how to engage my Tibialis Post. And using a squat shoe has made it possible. 4) Learning how to use RIR which essentially meant lowering my weights to manageable poundages so that I had enough wherewithal to discern if I was using proper mechanics during a set.
