I’ve never read Virginia Woolf, but I’m so convinced I’m going to love her that I’ve starting collecting her books. Even though I already had Mrs. Dalloway (twice), this little one seemed special. #virginiawoolf #mrsdalloway #bookstagram #bookshelfie #bookshelf #book #books #reading

How could we do a series on #queerlit without mentioning Virginia Woolf? Topping our stack here is Orlando, a wild gender-bending ride through British history inspired by Vita Sackville-West, Woolf's friend and lover ❤️ Miss Betty Boop here also approves! 😻

This year I fell in love with Virginia Woolf. I read 'To the Lighthouse' first and it quickly became one of my favourite books of all time. It was almost an extra limb: I remember taking it to the cinema and whenever I went to a coffee shop in Durham. I had to read passages aloud because they were so mesmerising, Woolf's prose is incredibly rich and poetic. The narration ebbs and flows which is unlike anything I'd ever read, mimicking the flowing water motif that permeates the novel. The Lighthouse isn't so much a symbol as a point of reference, a reminder of humans' desires and ambitions that always seem unreachable, intangible. I think it's an incredibly powerful novel also because of its commentary on women's labour - whether that be Mrs Ramsay's role as hostess or Lily's breakthrough in her art. 🖼️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 'Mrs Dalloway' (which was everyone's favourite in my class) was equally beautiful. I loved the duality in the novel: the parallels between Septimus and Clarissa, life and death, youth and ageing. It's a reminder that life is delicate and precarious: the image of Clarissa stitching a dress together as a mirror of her attempt to bring people together (as does Mrs Ramsay) is strikingly poignant and heartwrenching. The Big Ben, similarly to the Lighthouse acts almost as the spine of the book, drawing Clarissa and Septimus together, regardless of class & gender - time is fleeting and life is beautifully agonising. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes from 'To the Lighthouse: "And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be are full of trees and changing leaves." 🍁

. #orlando #virginiawoolf #capadura Nota:5'🌟 . . ⤵️Comprar com desconto⤵️ https://amzn.to/2RelrfL . . . . . . . . . . . #livros #euamolivros #literatura #bookstagram #euamoler #bookishinstagram #leitores #lovesreading #picupabook #instagramliterario #livrogram #lovesreading #bookstagrammer #picupabook #instabook #bookster #romances #bookfeature #bookaholic #besteseller
