Founded in 1350 as the second capital of the Kingdom of Siam after Sukhothai, Ayutthaya was once a prosperous international trading port with its strategic location surrounded by three rivers ,connecting the city to the sea. Under siege and razed in 1767, remnants of the splendour of the great kingdom is now a UNESCO heritage site. Housing numerous temples during its glorious time, a walk on the site allows one to notice various buddha statues are found without heads. It was said that the heads were looted and sold at high prices. However, one of the removed heads was left behind and is mysteriously entwined with the roots of a Banyan tree which now stands at Wat Mahathat. What could have been the reason for the head to be there? I wonder... #wanderlust #dailylife #sony #travelphotography #wanderer #globetrotter #welivetoexplore #streetphotography #portraitphotography #instagood #photooftheday #picofthedayphoto #instafollow #streetphotographerscommunity #instagood #instafollow #lonelyplanet #lpfanphoto #mylpguide #streetphotographerscommunity #streetphotography #streetshared #thailand #泰国 #อย ุธยา #タイ #遺跡
